Custom Bass Guitars
Custom bass guitars can be built to your specs and with your choice of woods, finishes and hardware/electronics. These basses are handcrafted - not pre-fabricated and assembled. The bodies, necks and fingerboards are built up by hand from raw components, which allows for superior quality control. In this way the most beautiful tonewoods can be matched to the electronics to produce an instrument with a balanced tone suited to the needs of each individual musician and their unique style of play. Versatility is a very important factor that goes into the design and crafting of each Shaw Custom Bass, allowing you as a player to explore a variety of tonal textures with a single instrument. No need to drag several basses to a gig to get just the sound you desire or to accomodate different styles.
One thing that is never compromised on are components. Only the finest woods, electronics and hardware are used to construct a Shaw Custom Bass. The woods are pulled off the inspection line immediately after they are sawed from the tree by my trusted source. No modern technology can replace the seasoning effect of time on these beautiful pieces of wood.
The other important design spec for these instruments is weight and balance, an important consideration since most gigs entail standing with your bass hanging around your neck for several hours. Of course, any vintage bass design can be reproduced (and improved on I believe), but I feel my own designs result in a more comfortable weight distribution. One thing I really love is to collaborate with individual musicians to help them realize their own design ideas come to life. Whether it is fine tuning a classic configuration to suit your own individual taste or stepping out into a radical new direction in body style or electronics, I would love to be a part of it.
